Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that my inner thermostat would go faulty long before my heart would? I swear I have an inner-child intrigued with my internal switch and is flipping it constantly, up and down, on and off until I can’t take it anymore! Is this what the psychologists mean when they talk about getting in touch with your inner-child? Mine is out of control and unstoppable! I know when my grandbabies come to visit, they love to flip the light switch up and down with the lights going on and off. Yes, this must be my inner-child having fun with my thermostat switch. Up and down, on and off. STOP IT!!!
My office has a big fan with a heater sitting on top of it. I turn the fan on for two minutes then the heater goes on for one – and so this goes on all day long. Maybe I could be swayed into believing in global warming because my body is experiencing intensive overheating! It starts in the inner core and quickly spreads to ignite every inch of my body. My inner child is not only flipping my switch but is lighting matches! If I am sitting in a meeting, I will pick up the distributed agenda and material and begin to fan myself with a passion. I don’t care who I am disrupting and have little care of what my colleagues have surmised of me, “YES, OF COURSE I’M HAVING HOT FLASHES AND I’M GOING TO DIE OF A HEAT STROKE RIGHT HERE AND NOW IF I DON’T DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!” I fan; I partially disrobe, try not to bring too much attention upon myself, keep engaged and above all, keep smiling.
The secret to being a successful woman is to remain calm in the midst of the small fires and heated moments that may come her way. Don’t quit or give up but persevere; you will make it! I first tested this important lesson back in the early 70’s while in the middle of a football field. Performing during the half time show with a fire baton, I caught my tights on fire. I took the fiery baton between my legs, turned it around and back out leaving some sparks in its trail – I knew then and there that the baton had came way to close for comfort, but I kept on smiling and kept on performing as best I could. Those satin, purple tights were indeed singed in the crotch and were proof of my legacy of one HOT performance!
Do you feel like you are always putting out fires? Juggling a smoldering hotspot in your life while you stomp out some embers in another area? The fires aren’t always situations we can laugh about or make light of – but we can always know we can make it through. Why not take Him at His word?
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (Isaiah 43:1-3 NKJV)
