A Chocolate Kiss For You Mommy!

What is Easter without an Easter Egg Hunt! This is the 2nd year I continue my Easter Egg Hunt Withdrawals as my youngest is now two years over the maximum age to participate. (He would be the first in line if he wasn’t too old; in fact, last year he asked if he could just “pretend he was younger since he was sort of short anyway”. I went from childhood, directly into motherhood and didn’t really skip a beat for 51 years with participating in these memorable, magical events. That’s been one of the rewards of having six children spread out over nineteen years.

In my childhood days, the events would be held at the Phillipsburg, Kansas Golf Course. If we would be so lucky as to pick up the prized special plastic egg (comparable to Willy Wonka’s winning gold ticket) we would seek out the designated downtown proprietor to pickup our Easter Basket.

Imagine the anticipation of the approaching start time. Parents giving the “How to get as many eggs as you can" strategic talk to young ears who were more interested in the children standing next to them than their parent's advice. The yellow tape waiting to be broken by hundreds of kids (some pulled by their parents) running to their colored treasures strewn over freshly cut spring grass. These visions forever will be a part of us as cherished memories of past Easter Egg Hunts.

One of my sons, now 16, shared with me a chocolate kiss I’ll never forget. Just returning from the city’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, we were enjoying the sunshine on our front steps with him on my lap. I can picture him perfectly, probably just about ready to turn two. With his basket filled with candy and empty wrappers beside us, I’m sure it was “one for you” “one for me” sort of a deal. With him standing on my lap, facing me, I went for a kiss on those sweet little lips and just as mine touched his, he up-chucked his morning’s treasures. A chocolate kiss I will never forget!

Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him.
Psalms 127:3
