We are hearing a lot about airport security lines in today’s news. With the increased security measures in place, we are given travel tips to assist in the speed and ease of the security process.
Once, in my attempt to organize myself prior to going to the airport, I remembered from a past trip that the airport staff took the straps off of my bags and placed them inside the bags prior to checking them.
I had an “AHA” moment from this past experience as a seasoned traveler. I thought to myself “ I can be one step ahead of the game and take all of the straps off of my bags and leave them all at home!” Feeling quite smart and sassy, I did just that prior to heading out the door to the airport.
My “ride” dropped me off at the airport, took the bags out of the trunk and set them at curb-side and drove away blowing me a kiss. After waving back and watching him drive away, I looked down at my bags, and the sudden realization hit that I had 4 bags (with very short bag handles) and only 2 hands. Without the shoulder straps, I had no idea how I was going to proceed to the ticket counter with all 4 bags in tow.

Allow me to fast forward to another trip, another security experience…. I had successfully made it through the security process, having placed my shoes, my purse, my shoulder bag, my jacket in the totes…and had just finished up retrieving my stuff from the totes, putting myself together again and was hurriedly walking away to find my gate. I heard, “Miss!” “Excuse me Miss!” “HEY! LADY!!” I stopped, turned toward the voices and realized they were yelling at me. They were not only yelling at me, they were holding up MY shoes. My shoes? I looked down at my feet – yep! I did not have MY shoes on. I quickly returned the 30 feet back to the conveyer belt, grabbed my shoes from the guy with the big grin on his face and hurried away. Darn! Why is life so hard to maneuver around for me? It’s a wonder how I navigate through any day.
Psalm 73: 23 Yet I am always with You; you hold me by my right hand”
How comforting to realize I do not have to depend upon my own wisdom to maneuver each day and every task at hand!
